We have same day appointments available at Stewart Road Family Health. We pride ourselves on being a community based clinic that is available to you without long waits for appointments. Although we are not an urgent care facility there are many illnesses and injuries that can be handled in the clinic

Dr. Cindy Ripsin was born and raised in Minnesota. She attended theUniversity of Minnesota for undergraduate school and also obtained theMPH degree in epidemiology. She went to medical school at EasternVirginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia and did her residencytraining in Portsmouth, Virginia. For the past six years Dr. Ripsinhas been a solo family physician in rural Virginia; she joined the UTMBDepartment of Family Medicine in March 2007. She enjoys seeing theentire age spectrum for primary care, and has a special interest in thecare of people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high bloodpressure and heart disease.

Dr. James King was born and raisedin Oklahoma. He attended University of Oklahoma School of Medicineand completed his residency in Family Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma in1983. He was in private practice there for 20 years subsequentlyjoining the UTMB Department of Family Medicine as Associate Professorin 2003. He is board certified in Family Medicine and Geriatrics. Dr.King and his family enjoy living in their beach house on Galveston’sWest End.

Dr. Shepherd received her B.A. from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and her M.D. degree in 1982 from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She stayed in Galveston to complete her internship and residency in Family Medicine at UTMB. Prior to joining our faculty, she had been in private practice in Galveston for ten years. As faculty, she served as the Director of the Galveston Residency Program from 1998 to 2002 and now serves as the Associate Director of the Residency Program. She is conducting research on improving screening and prevention of osteoporosis and associated fractures in men and women, and enjoys seeing patients of all ages, including nursing home visits and home visits for elderly patients.
